What to expect from Antenatal Acupuncture?
At your first Antenatal Acupuncture appointment, we will assess your condition and diagnose the catalyst of your pain or dysfunction. From there we will discuss how acupuncture techniques can benefit your symptoms and design a tailored plan for your specific concerns.
Your initial acupuncture session will be shorter than usual at around 20 minutes long to allow our specialised acupuncture therapists to gauge your tolerance to pain and needles, as well as whether this treatment is right for you.
This will also give you an idea of what acupuncture is like and what to expect from future sessions. If you are comfortable and happy with your first session, upon agreement with the specialist physiotherapist,, your appointment can be extended going forwards.
During your acupuncture appointment, needles are inserted into the area of your body relating to your symptoms and pain as well as other areas of your body such as hands and feet which simultaneously have positive effects on the rest of your body.
For your appointment, It would be helpful if you could dress in clothing with easy access to the areas where you have symptoms. For example if you are struggling with neck pain, wearing a vest top and having your hair tied up would be ideal.

Emily Elgar
Emily has been with the Katie Bell team right from the start, and has since expanded her skills to include acupuncture, myofascial release, and professional coaching alongside classical pelvic health skills which reflects her combined approach to physiotherapy.
“I love not only helping women find the practical solutions to their pelvic and obstetric health challenges, but also helping them find their unique recipe for wellness. So often in clinic I hear that patients didn’t realise there was so much they could do to impact their symptoms. When a women comes in having taken control of their health they change in everyway. I love when she tells you about how she is physically better and feels it, but then talks about all the ways she understands her body more. There’s a lot of power in that, not just the one fix but embracing your health for life.”
