Back Pain Sheffield

Back Pain Treatment Sheffield

Have you been suffering with back pain on and off for years? Maybe you’re sick of having to adapt your lifestyle in case your back goes or you’re feeling like you have tried everything and nothing’s worked!

According to the Office for National Statistics, almost 31 million work days were lost in the UK in 2016 due to musculoskeletal problems including back pain. The costs attributable to low back pain in the UK are estimated at £12.3bn a year, with £1.6bn spent on treatment.

What are the causes of back pain?

The back is a complex area of ligaments, muscles, bones, fascia, nerves and is continuously working hard to support the rest of the body.

Back pain can have various triggers, including poor posture, incorrect lifting, weak muscles around the spine, reduced levels of exercise, obesity and stress. Back pain can also be caused by more serious conditions, but this is very rare.

Back pain that is not caused by a specific condition like Ankylosing Spondylitis or Disc problems is classed as ‘Non Specific Back Pain’. It is non specific because it’s caused by structures in the back rather than a serious problem. Non Specific Back Pain can cause a dull ache, sharp pain, stiffness, muscular spasm, sharp shooting pains and is nothing to worry about (in fact worrying can make it worse!).

We regularly run back pain workshops at our clinic in Sheffield where we cover:

  • What are the conservative treatments that should be tried first before surgery.
  • What effective, conservative, natural treatment looks like.
  • How do you avoid a spinal surgery and is that possible, even if you were told that was the only option.
  • Why the brain is involved so much and no one explains it properly!
  • How to take control and improve your back pain for good.

How we treat back pain:

You do not have to live with pain, there is always a reason for it. At Katie Bell Physiotherapy & Wellness we are experts at working with people who have lower back pain. We first establish the cause – this is vital to make sure you don’t keep getting repeat episodes of this time and time again – then we will give you strategies to reduce your pain immediately.

We are goal focused throughout treatment and won’t stop until we have reached your goal (whatever that may be).
