What are the benefits of Pilates?
Pilates is a form of exercise that focuses on activating the muscles that lie deep around the spine, pelvis, and hips. These muscles, when strengthened, can provide a large number of benefits to an individual, such as:
- Increased core stability
- Improved muscle tone
- Better postural alignment and awareness
- Reduction in pain
- Greater power production in sports
- Reduced risk of injury
- Accelerated speed of recovery
- Reduction in stress levels and improved sense of well-being
Is there a minimum level of fitness required for Pilates?
There is no minimum level of fitness required, and we can easily tailor the exercises to start at a level most suited to you – complete beginners are more than welcome.
We would, however, recommend an initial assessment with a physiotherapist if you have any particular needs or concerns before undertaking any exercise.
Alternatively, please speak to us first about any reservations you might have so that we can place you in the most appropriate pilates class.
What to wear to a Pilates Class?
It is recommended that you wear clothes that are comfortable, easy to move in, but not too baggy. All mats and small equipment (balls, bands, etc.) will be provided for you in our stunning Pilates studio, along with plenty of water if needed. Socks are optional.
“I have been doing Pilates at Katie Bell’s once a week for nearly 2 years and it has significantly improved my core strength, flexibility and posture. In truth I really wasn’t expecting to notice much of a difference, but the opposite is true and now if I miss a session I really feel it! The programme is very well structured, and the weekly ‘theme’ ensures that you have a chance to focus on each area individually. I also run regularly and have really felt the benefits of Pilates, especially when I attended twice a week for a month while I was using up my catch-up sessions. The difference the additional session made was amazing – I have never felt stronger!!”
“I have arthritis in my lower spine, left foot and wrists. I started Pilates weekly a while ago and soon began to feel better – I took a big decision to try the cardio Pilates class also and, despite being the oldest and most decrepit – I loved it!
It has challenged me and continues to, especially the burpees….but the difference for me from one class to two has been very noticeable. I feel less stiff, more comfortable, and just generally better. I am completely committed to my classes and only miss if I’m away!”
