Most people will suffer with a minor neck problem from time to time, and with more people using phones, iPads, laptops and spending more time sat at a desk – we are treating more and more stiff and painful necks at Katie Bell Physiotherapy & Wellness. Neck pain and stiffness is a common complaint. We often hear people say, ” I must have slept funny!” “Or I have a crick in my neck!”
Neck pain can sometimes spread to the shoulder, upper back and arms and commonly can be a major player in headaches.
Here’s Guy our Senior Physiotherapist demonstrating three easy exercises to help reduce stiffness and pain.
Try these daily to help reduce a stiff or painful neck.
Some other good tips are to use a wheat bag. Warm it in the microwave for a couple of minutes and place it around the neck. This will help muscle spasm quickly.
Another tip would be to reduce overhead activity for a few days to ensure the muscles around the neck and shoulders are staying relaxed.
And finally look at your posture. Are you sitting with your chin poking forward when reading, texting, sitting at the computer? Try and imagine a helium balloon is attached to the top of your head and lengthening your neck.
